Rephrase the title:India’s PC market shipments surge in Q3 amidst import restrictions talks

The Indian PC market has witnessed a significant upturn, with a record high of 4.5 million devices shipped in the third quarter of 2023, marking a 14% year-on-year increase. This surge follows a four-quarter period of decline for the PC market.

The boost in shipments can be attributed to various factors, including the festive season and looming import restrictions by the government. The restriction on imports has now been withdrawn, after making an impact on the market.

Bharath Shenoy, Senior Research Analyst, IDC India stated, “The consumer segment saw strong traction in 3Q ‘23 after a challenging past four quarters.”

According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), both notebooks and desktop segments recorded decent growth in Q3 2023. The desktop segment reported a 19.3% year-on-year growth, while the notebook category grew by 13.1%. The commercial segment remained flat, but the consumer segment experienced a 26.3% growth.

The government restrictions boosted shipments, with companies shipping devices to increase inventory in anticipation of import restrictions. HP continues to lead the Indian PC market with a 29.4% market share in Q3 2023, making it a record-breaking quarter in terms of consumer shipments.

Lenovo followed with a 17% share in Q3 2023, and Dell maintained the third position with a 14.6% market share. Dell also reported a 3.8% growth during the quarter, with the consumer segment growing by 68.5% year-on-year.
