The upcoming wedding season in India is anticipated to bring an expenditure of Rs 4.74 lakh crore from November 23 to December 15, with almost 38 lakh marriages taking place. This figure is nearly Rs 1 lakh crore more than the previous year, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The estimates are based on input from trade bodies in 30 cities and stakeholders in goods and services.
CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal stated that the total expenditure for the 38 lakh weddings during this period is expected to be around Rs 4.7 lakh crore, compared to the previous year’s total of Rs 3.75 lakh crore for almost 32 lakh weddings. Khandelwal emphasized that the increase in expenditure is a positive sign for the Indian economy and retail trade.
The wedding season, which includes dates in November and December, is expected to contribute significantly to the Indian economy. In Delhi alone, over 4 lakh weddings are projected, generating a business of about Rs 1.25 lakh crore. These estimates highlight the economic impact of the upcoming wedding season, promising substantial revenue for businesses across the country.
