Ashok Gehlot: Veteran leader steps down from central role in Rajasthan

Ashok Gehlot, a prominent political figure in Jaipur, has been known for his determined efforts to retain the chief minister’s post in the Congress party. Despite facing internal opposition and a difficult political landscape, Gehlot introduced various welfare measures in an attempt to secure his position as the chief minister of Rajasthan.

However, despite his past successes and mass popularity in the state, Gehlot experienced a setback in the recent elections, conceding defeat as the BJP emerged victorious to secure the majority in the assembly.

Gehlot’s political journey has included significant roles within the Congress party, such as being in charge of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Rajasthan Congress Committee, as well as serving in various ministerial roles at the Centre. His son, Vaibhav Gehlot, also played a role in politics as the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association.

The political rivalry between Gehlot and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who later became a Union minister in the Modi government, has been marked by accusations and counter-accusations. As the election results unfolded, Shekhawat alluded to Gehlot’s past as his magician father’s assistant and made comments referencing his reputation for political maneuvering.

Ultimately, the recent election results reflect a changing political landscape in Rajasthan, as the BJP emerged victorious and Gehlot’s traditional stronghold showed signs of shifting allegiances. This outcome marks a new chapter in the political dynamics of the region, with potential implications for the future of the Congress party and its leadership in Rajasthan.
