85-year-old man in Maharashtra dies 17 days after being attacked with acid over black magic accusations in Jalna

Elderly Man Succumbs to Acid Attack Injuries After Accusations of Black Magic in Maharashtra Village

[Jalna, Maharashtra, Date] – Shrirang Shejul, an 85-year-old man from Mhasrul village, Jalna district, Maharashtra, has tragically passed away after sustaining severe burn injuries in an acid attack. The attack occurred on the night of September 1, following accusations made by two individuals who claimed that the elderly man had been practicing black magic against them. Despite battling for his life for over two weeks, Mr. Shejul succumbed to his injuries on September 18.

Upon investigation, the police have identified the suspects as Nandu Shejul and Bhaskar Sable, both residents of the same village. While Nandu has been apprehended, Sable is still at large. During the investigation, the police discovered a stock of acid at Nandu’s residence.

According to the complaint filed by Shrirang Shejul’s son, the horrifying incident unfolded while the elderly man was sleeping peacefully in the veranda of his house. Awakened by his cries, family members rushed to his aid only to find him drenched in chemicals, with severe burns on various parts of his body.

Medical assistance was immediately sought, and Shrirang Shejul was first taken to Jafrabad rural hospital. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was later transferred to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar for further treatment. Unfortunately, his injuries proved fatal, and he did not survive.

During the course of the investigation, a police sub-inspector revealed that three months before the acid attack, Nandu and Sable had accused Mr. Shejul of practicing black magic against them. The duo had confronted him and warned of dire consequences if he did not cease his alleged black magic practices.

The police have registered a murder case against the two suspects, and efforts are underway to apprehend Sable. The recovery of acid from Nandu’s residence serves as crucial evidence against the accused.

This tragic incident sheds light on the grave consequences of superstition and baseless accusations. The authorities must take strong measures to bring justice to the victim and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
