Bomb Threat Email Sent to 68 Schools in Bengaluru, Karnataka
Panic spread among staff and parents of sixty-eight private schools in and around Bengaluru as they received emails warning of a bomb threat on their premises. The school authorities immediately alerted police, who reached the institutions concerned with bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage check teams. However, officials indicated the bomb threat could be a hoax.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he has asked police to seriously investigate the email and its source and provide adequate security to schools and temples as a precautionary measure. State Home Minister G Parameshwara revealed that the email had come from an email id “[email protected],” threatening to kill children and staff. He assured that the authorities were taking the threat seriously.
Of the 68 schools which received the bomb threat, 48 are located within the city while the rest are in Bengaluru Rural limits. Students and staff were immediately evacuated from the school premises, and although no suspicious objects were found, the police are conducting a thorough investigation.
City Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed that bomb disposal teams were sent to all the schools and stated that it seemed most likely to be a hoax. Parents and other concerned individuals rushed to the schools to ensure the safety of the students.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar urged parents and the public not to worry, assuring them that the police were taking the necessary precautions. The opposition criticized the government for the deterioration of law and order and demanded a comprehensive investigation and immediate action.
