Chennai experiences disruption to normal life as heavy rain leads to traffic jams and inundated roads

Cyclone Michaung Causes Flooding and Chaos in Chennai

As the approaching Cyclone Michaung heads towards the North Tamil Nadu coast, heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging have left several areas of Chennai inundated. The rainwater accumulation has led to submerged vehicles and severe traffic jams throughout the city.

North-Chennai areas experienced heavy rainfall, leading to complete immersion of Vadakarai road from Madhavaram to Sengunram. The city has deployed NDRF and SDRF teams in anticipation of the upcoming cyclone.

Power cuts and waterlogging in low-lying areas have disrupted normal life, with the closure of the Thillai Ganga Nagar Subway due to heavy waterlogging.

The heavy rains and intense winds have caused power poles to fall and cut off electricity in the Mahabalipuram area. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall for Chennai and surrounding areas for the next 24 hours.

Amidst these challenges, eleven express trains from Chennai Central were cancelled due to the danger posed by heavy downpours at Bridge No. 14 between Vyasarpadi and Basin Bridge. The Divisional Railway Manager of Southern Railway apologized for the inconvenience and provided a list of the affected trains.
