Sri Lanka has implemented a new initiative that grants visa-free entry to visitors from seven countries, including India, China, and Russia. The pilot project, approved by the Sri Lanka Cabinet, aims to boost tourism and attract more tourists to the country. The decision was announced by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, on Tuesday.
Minister Sabry stated that the pilot project, which commenced immediately, will run until March 31, 2024. In a statement to X, he expressed, “Cabinet approves issuing of free visas to India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia & Thailand with immediate effect as a pilot project till 31 March.”
This move follows last week’s announcement by the Ministry of Tourism, where a Cabinet Paper was presented during the previous Cabinet meeting proposing the issuance of free tourist visas to foreigners from five countries who wish to visit Sri Lanka as tourists, as per The Daily Mirror.
The visa-free entry initiative aims to attract more visitors from these countries and facilitate easier travel to Sri Lanka. By removing the visa requirement, the country hopes to increase tourist arrivals, improve the economy, and showcase the diverse cultural heritage and natural beauty it has to offer.
This project will not only benefit Sri Lanka’s tourism sector but also strengthen ties with these countries and foster international cooperation. The initiative is expected to promote trade, cultural exchanges, and bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the participating nations.
Visitors who wish to take advantage of this opportunity can now plan their trips to Sri Lanka without the hassle of applying for a visa. They can explore the tropical beaches, historical sites, vibrant cities, and natural wonders that Sri Lanka has to offer.
This bold move sets Sri Lanka apart as a destination that values and prioritizes tourism. With its rich history, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, Sri Lanka is poised to become a top choice for travelers from India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand.
The visa-free entry project is an exciting development that will bring new opportunities for tourism, economic growth, and cross-cultural experiences. Sri Lanka is ready to welcome visitors from these countries with open arms, offering them an unforgettable and hassle-free travel experience.
