If the Congress party remains in power, Rahul Gandhi ensures free education in schools and colleges in Chhattisgarh.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a major promise ahead of the Chhattisgarh elections, vowing to provide free education in government schools and colleges in the state. Speaking at an election rally in the Bhanupratappur assembly constituency, Gandhi also pledged to give Rs 4,000 a year to tendu leaves collectors if his party retains power.

Drawing attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mention of the “other backward class” (OBC) in his speeches, Gandhi questioned why Modi is afraid of a caste census. He assured that a caste census will be conducted if the Congress is voted into power at the Centre.

Bhanupratappur is one of the 20 constituencies set for polling on November 7 in the first phase of the Chhattisgarh elections, with the second phase scheduled for November 17. Gandhi outlined the “KG to PG” initiative, which promises free education from kindergarten to post-graduation in government institutions if the Congress retains power. He emphasized that students will not have to pay any fees.

The Congress leader also made a significant announcement for tendu leaves collectors, stating that they will receive Rs 4,000 per year under the Rajiv Gandhi Protsahan Yojana if Congress forms the government in the state. This announcement carries particular weight in the tribal-dominated Bastar region, where Bhanupratappur is located.

Highlighting the issue of a caste census, Gandhi criticized Modi for using the term OBC but shying away from a caste census. He urged the OBCs to be aware of being deceived. Additionally, he pledged that if the Congress comes to power in Delhi, a caste census will be conducted nationwide, reiterating the party’s promise for Chhattisgarh.

Taking aim at the BJP-led Centre, Gandhi claimed that it works primarily in the interest of a few industrialists, while the Congress champions the rights of farmers, Dalits, laborers, and Adivasis. He emphasized that the party has fulfilled key promises made ahead of the previous assembly polls in Chhattisgarh.

Furthermore, Gandhi condemned the BJP’s use of the term “vanvasi” instead of “Adivasi” for tribals, deeming it an insult to Adivasis and an attack on their culture, history, and language.

During his speech, Gandhi briefly paused and walked to the other side of the stage with a bottle of water, seemingly in response to someone fainting. He returned to the podium and inquired about the individual’s condition.
