“Prime Minister Modi expresses delight at ‘Melodi’ selfie shared by Italian counterpart Georgia Meloni”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni shared a selfie on Friday featuring herself and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In response, PM Modi stated that it is always a delight to meet friends. The selfie was taken during their meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai.

During their meeting, PM Modi also discussed efforts by India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future. He also met with several other world leaders during his visit to Dubai. PM Modi highlighted the impact of climate change on the Global South and emphasized the importance of climate finance and technology to fulfill their aspirations.

This meeting between PM Modi and Italian PM Meloni is not the first, as they previously met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi. During her state visit to India in March 2023, the bilateral relations between India and Italy were elevated to a Strategic Partnership.

The two leaders appreciated Italy’s support for India’s G20 Presidency and agreed to bolster cooperation in areas like defense and emerging technologies. They also discussed the need for the G7 and G20 to work for the greater global good.

PM Modi’s participation in the COP28 Summit is his third appearance at the World Climate Action Summit, following his visits to Paris in 2015 and Glasgow in 2021. The COP28 Summit is being held from November 28 to December 12 under the Presidency of the UAE.
