MUMBAI: Priyanka Chopra, the prominent Bollywood actress, recently spoke about her experiences working in female-led films and the impact of box office failures on her. During a masterclass with actress Bhumi Pednekar at the Jio MAMI Film Festival in Mumbai, Priyanka shared her thoughts with the audience.

In her candid conversation, Priyanka admitted that she used to feel a great deal of pressure when her female-centric films did not perform well at the box office. “There’s a lot of pressure when you have a female-led film because we have so few. So when they don’t do well, you feel the collective failure on behalf of all women,” she expressed, according to Deadline.

The actress revealed that she used to feel like she had let down women and taken them a few steps back. “I’ve let womankind down because there are so few of us that get the opportunity to do this,” Priyanka said. However, she also mentioned that she has learned to handle such failures differently now.

“But I’ve learned to pivot my mind around that – it’s not personal. When a movie works, it works because it has something to say. And if it doesn’t work, it didn’t say what it needed to say,” she added.

Priyanka also disclosed an interesting anecdote about the perception of female actors working in female-oriented projects. She shared that she was advised to take up female-centric films only towards the end of her career so that she could potentially win a National Award. However, Priyanka defied this notion by signing the film Fashion right after the success of Krrish.

Currently, Priyanka is noted for headlining various female-centric movies such as Mary Kom, Saat Khoon Maaf, and Jai Gangaajal.

During the masterclass, Priyanka graced the event in an elegant white printed saree. Apart from her participation in the masterclass, she also attended the opening night ceremony of the Jio MAMI Film Festival.
