Reports state that a man has been arrested for planning a ‘mass casualty’ attack at Elon Musk’s Cybertruck launch event.

A Florida man, 28-year-old Paul Ryan Overeem, was arrested this week for allegedly planning a “mass casualty event” at Tesla’s Cybertruck promotional event in Austin. Overeem is suspected of harboring a strong hatred for technology and had previously made threatening posts against Tesla on Instagram.

Overeem, who had been under investigation for the threatening posts made under the name “ufotnoitalumis,” was spotted driving to Texas for the event at the Tesla Giga Texas factory in Austin. On November 9, he posted a message in which he mentioned his plan to commit violence at the event, raising serious concerns. Following his arrest in a McDonald’s parking lot by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Overeem reportedly revealed that he had weapons in his car and was planning to commit suicide. He confessed to the police that he had intended to “shoot up Elon Musk and the plant.”

It appears that Overeem had a deep antipathy towards modern technology, as evidenced by his social media posts expressing turmoil over electronic devices. Despite his arrest and confession, Elon Musk has not issued any public comment on the incident. Additionally, neither the Travis County Police Department nor Tesla immediately responded to Business Insider’s request for comment.

The gravity of the situation and the potential threat to safety posed by Overeem’s actions highlight the crucial role of law enforcement in identifying and preventing acts of violence. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of public events and the individuals involved.
