India to Host First-Ever Global AI Summit, Says SAP Executive
India is gearing up to organize its first-ever global artificial intelligence (AI) summit in December. As preparations are underway, Walter Sun, Global Head of AI at software major SAP, believes that the government and other stakeholders can learn valuable lessons from companies like SAP when it comes to making informed decisions about AI.
In a recent conversation with IANS, Sun, an industry veteran with over 18 years of experience, emphasized the importance of governments becoming well-informed about AI. He believes that with greater knowledge, governments can accelerate innovation while ensuring the well-being of end-users.
Sun stated, “The more we connect with the government on building responsible AI together, the more it will also become easier for us to innovate while talking about proper regulations for the whole industry.”
Highlighting SAP’s extensive experience and technological expertise, Sun pointed out that governments can greatly benefit from collaborating with SAP to make better decisions. He expressed that SAP spends a significant amount of time engaging with customers and working on the latest technologies, making it a valuable resource for governments seeking information.
The upcoming AI Safety Summit in New Delhi, organized by the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), will further address the risks associated with AI. The summit, set to take place next month, will involve discussions with world leaders before a global framework is reached in Korea next year. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, revealed this plan.
Being the council chair of GPAI, India will host the annual summit from December 12-14 at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.
Sun’s technological journey dates back to 2005 when he held crucial roles in research and product development at Microsoft. Notably, his contributions include the creation of Bing Predicts, a pioneering platform that leverages anonymized and aggregated data for predictive analytics. This innovation enabled the integration of AI features across Bing Search, Windows, Dynamics 365, and the Power Platform.
Sun is a firm believer in the transformative power of generative AI across various industries. He stressed SAP’s commitment to responsible AI and the importance of delivering high-quality AI solutions to customers. He expressed SAP’s willingness to partner with governments and lead the way in AI technology.
According to Sun, generative AI has the potential to drive cost savings, enhance efficiency and productivity, and improve employees’ lives. As generative AI continues to disrupt businesses globally and in India, SAP has launched new AI capabilities and advancements for developers to build AI-based apps and solutions.
With Sun spearheading SAP’s AI initiatives, the company aims to usher in a new era of innovation, offering groundbreaking solutions to address pressing problems for clients.
