Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc., was criticized by the White House on Friday for endorsing “Antisemitic and racist hate” after agreeing with a social media post accusing “Jewish communities” of promoting “hatred against whites.”
White House spokesman Andrew Bates condemned Musk’s views, calling them “unacceptable” and a betrayal of American core values.
The comment was made by Musk in response to a post on X by an account with fewer than 5,000 followers, which has now been viewed over 1.1 million times following Musk’s endorsement. Meanwhile, Musk criticized the Anti-Defamation League, accusing them of pushing anti-white racism and racism of any kind.
ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt responded to Musk’s claims, warning of the dangers of using influence to promote antisemitic theories, especially at a time when antisemitism is surging.
This is not the first time Musk has been accused of promoting antisemitic conspiracies. In 2018, he sparked accusations of antisemitism with a tweet about who owns the press. Musk has also made controversial statements on Twitter in the past, including comparing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Adolf Hitler, which he later deleted.
With these latest comments fueling controversy, companies like IBM have announced that they are pausing their advertising on X due to concerns over antisemitic content.
Musk, who is also the founder of SpaceX, is set to attempt another launch of Starship, as part of a NASA contract this Saturday.
